Overview

The task of this course was to find a way to control the release of alginate gels, a material obtained from brown seaweed that has a wide range of biomedical and nutritional applications.

We proposed to create a patch that will aid victims of minor burns and minor to moderate wounds. Created from a mixture of alginate derived from brown seaweed and chitosan from crustaceans to form a composite fiber called alchite, the patch is all-natural. In addition, its superior absorbent and antimicrobial properties produce a sterilizing environment for the injury to properly heal.
Alginate comes from the common brown seaweed found in oceans globally
