Week 1

April 7, 2017

Each member of the team introduced themselves to each other and began to consider ideas to satisfy the goals of the project. Utilizing Drexel University's online library resources and the Google Search engine, we identified potentially informative articles that could help us develop our project.

Initially, we thought about creating capsule that would react to changes in pH or temperature, which would allow the drug inside the capsule to be administered when it reached the unique conditions inside the human body.

Another option was a patch with an absorbent material composed of alchite, a fibrous substance obtained from weaving together cross-linked sodium alginate and chitosan that effectively dehydrates wounds and is composed of natural, sustainable products. The patch would be attached to the skin via medical tape. We contemplated infusing medicine or honey within the patch to disinfect the wound, but the inherently antimicrobial property of alchite fibers rendered the thought unnecessary.
